Obstacles to our Natural Creativity

Working with these obstacles to our natural creativity is a key part of The Alchemy of Writing process

Obstacles to Creativity

Fear of Failure--learn to bow to failure. It’s inevitable.

Fear of nothingness or emptiness--learn to rest in this emptiness and recognize it as your greatest ally, your creative and spiritual source.

The need for certainty--learn to be uncertain, lost, not knowing what is coming.

The power of familiarity, and habit--be bold enough to break taboos, do things differently.

The need for control--discover the part of you that is simply willing to let go.

Suppression of the emotions--breathe, enter your body, and open to all of your feelings.

Sensory Dullness—release the mental energy in your head, and allow yourself to really listen, touch, see, taste and smell.

Lack of imagination--our society is dominated by the force of reason. Learn to honor your imagination, feelings, and intuition as an essential part of your humanity.

Male/female, or yang/yin imbalance-- in order to live a creative life we need access to our bold, dynamic assertive energy, and our soft, tender receptivity.
